When several people who meet you after a long time compliment you regarding weight loss (even though your weight might have been constant) it is a clear sign that you are overweight in their eyes.

Really? I though that saying that is just social "currency" some people use.

Of course it is a social currency, but people try to make this social currency relevant to the world around them. If you have a new shirt or hairdo, people will tend to compliment on that, saying it is nice, or it is interesting or it fits you (note what they are not saying to get a spec of truth). If you are overweight in their eyes, then a compliment which comes into hand is that you lost weight. Of course, it would not be a compliment if they do not monitor your weight, and think your weight is ok: then they would look for something else to comment on.

First you are right, because the weight issue is considered a very delicate.

On the other hand, given the fact that I succeed to complement you on the "new" table (just because it looked really new and elegant, as you described the rest of the really new stuff), proves that people are, in general, morons (me included).
